When unexplained blood clotting, recurrent pregnancy loss, or autoimmune symptoms arise, doctors often order the Anti Cardiolipin IgG test as a key diagnostic step. At JDAR Path Lab in Shanti Niketan, New Delhi, we offer this test with NABL-standard quality, fast turnaround, and the convenience of home sample collection backed by 43+ years of trusted diagnostic expertise.
Your blood contains different types of antibodies proteins that normally protect you from infections. But sometimes, the immune system makes a mistake. It starts producing antibodies that attack your own body instead.
The Anti Cardiolipin IgG test checks for one such antibody. It targets cardiolipin, a substance naturally found in your cell membranes. When too much of this antibody builds up in the blood, it can disturb the body's normal clotting process.
This is a problem because it raises your risk of blood clots, and if you are pregnant, it can lead to complications. Doctors call this condition Antiphospholipid Syndrome, or APS.
This test helps your doctor confirm whether APS is the cause of your symptoms. It is also used to monitor the condition over time and guide your treatment. For a more complete picture, your doctor may also recommend the Anti Cardiolipin IgM test, which detects a different class of antibody linked to the same condition, or the Anti Cardiolipin IgA test, which is particularly useful when IgG and IgM results are negative but symptoms persist.
Your doctor may recommend this test if you have been experiencing symptoms that could point to an autoimmune condition or a problem with blood clotting. Here are some common reasons it is ordered:
If this test comes back positive, your doctor will usually ask you to repeat it after 12 weeks. A positive result on both occasions is considered strong evidence of Antiphospholipid Syndrome and plays a key role in confirming the diagnosis.
Finding elevated cardiolipin antibodies early can make a real difference for your health, your treatment, and your peace of mind.
Your doctor may suggest this test if you have been dealing with any of the following:
Any one of these on its own may not tell the full story. But when combined with a positive Anti Cardiolipin IgG result, they give your doctor the evidence needed to confidently diagnose Antiphospholipid Syndrome.
Good news - this test needs very little preparation on your part.
You do not need to fast before the test, so you can eat and drink normally. Just make sure you are well-hydrated on the day, as this makes the blood draw quicker and more comfortable.
Let your doctor know about any medicines you are currently taking - especially blood thinners, steroids, or medicines for your immune system. Some of these can affect the result, so your doctor may want to factor that in.
Try to avoid heavy exercise the day before your test. Light activity is absolutely fine.
If you have had this test done before, bring those reports along. They help your doctor see how your levels have changed over time - which can be just as important as a single result.
Any questions before your test? Our team at JDAR Path Lab is happy to help you prepare.
A trained professional will collect a small sample of blood from a vein in your forearm. The whole process takes just a few minutes, and most people find it no more than a slight pinch.
Prefer to get tested from the comfort of your home? JDAR Path Lab offers home sample collection across select areas in New Delhi. A certified professional will come to you — at a time that works for you, whether that is your home or your workplace. Safe, clean, and completely hassle-free.
Your result will come as a number, measured in GPL units. Here is what the ranges generally mean:
Below 20 GPL units - Normal No significant antibody activity was detected. This is the expected result for most people.
20 to 80 GPL units - Borderline Your levels are slightly elevated. Your doctor will likely recommend repeating the test and reviewing it alongside your symptoms before drawing any conclusions.
Above 80 GPL units High This level is significantly elevated and is strongly linked to Antiphospholipid Syndrome and a higher risk of blood clots.
A positive result does not mean you have APS - and here is why that matters.
One positive test is not enough to diagnose APS. Guidelines require the test to come back positive on two separate occasions, at least 12 weeks apart. This is to make sure the result is consistent and not a temporary fluctuation.
Equally, a negative result does not always rule APS out. If your symptoms continue, your doctor may still investigate further.
Your doctor will look at your result alongside your symptoms, your medical history, and other test findings before making any diagnosis. Please do not interpret your result in isolation.
Your doctor may also recommend testing for both Anti Cardiolipin IgG and IgM antibodies together, which gives a more complete picture of your antibody profile.

JDAR did not start as a big corporate chain. It started with one person who genuinely cared. Dr. (Mrs.) Urmil Goel, M.B.B.S., M.D. (Pathology), founded JDAR in 1983 with a simple but powerful belief - that patients deserve quality diagnostic care in a premium, comfortable setting. With over 40 years of hands-on experience in Hematology, Histopathology, and Clinical Pathology, Dr. Urmil Goel built this lab from the ground up. Her dedication is the reason JDAR holds NABL accreditation and meets international quality standards today.
In 2005, her son Dr. Saurabh Goel, M.D. (Microbiology), joined the laboratory. He brought with him fresh expertise in Microbiology and Immuno-Assays, along with a focus on faster report delivery and better patient communication. Under his leadership, JDAR embraced modern diagnostic technology while never losing the personal touch that made it special. Today, this Pathology lab in New Delhi is run by a family that does not just manage a business they take ownership of your health, report by report.
